You will require an average light level of 100lux with a uniformity of 0.5 for flat work and jumping. Shadows should be minimized as these may distract the horses. Sodium lights should not be used due to the yellow colour which horses have difficulty in seeing. It is important that a good uniformity is achieved with minimal shadows around any show jumping fences. A good general uniformity is vital as poor lighting may distract the horses. Just four of these will provide a class 3, 100lux level of illumination with a 0.5 uniformity of light. Don’t be fooled by cheap LED floodlights they just are not up to the job. They will illuminate a small pool of light underneath it but not push the light into the middle. This leaves a badly lit manège with terrible uniformity. Some companies are restricted to using lower quality floodlights to keep the weight down because they need to be lifted up into position on poles. These floodlights do not control the light properly as they need to be angled outwards to illuminate the arena. This leads to light spillage and glare. With our retractable lighting solution the floodlights can be serviced when retracted so no expensive access equipment is required.
